Krakow ... a day late

We have discovered that traveling around Europe is not as easy as it once was. These two little girls slow us down! We are still in Krakow and have rented an apartment on the main square. It is really nice inside... outside... it is 12 degrees and snowing! So, we have spent alot of time bundling the girls up and racing to our destination. We want to come back when the weather is better to really enjoy this beautiful city and the gardens.

First class train to Krakow = not nice at all.

Lodz, Poland

We are settled into our apartment in Lodz and are beaten up by jetlag. Up all night and trying to stay up all day. To say we are shattered is an understatement!

Our guide book describes Lodz as follows, "As Polish cities go, Lodz is about as strange as it gets. For starters, its name is pronounced "woodge". Secondly, Lodz looks as though it has been dropped from a great height and left to lie where it fell - visually it could politely be called gritty. Thirdly, behind the obvious grime is a treasure trove of delights - palatial mansions, Art Nouveau buildings, progressive galleries, gigantic 19th century redbrick factories, and a creative energy that can be felt around the world." I think that sums it up pretty nicely! However, my world consists of 6 blocks of beautiful pedestrian streets, an ice skating rink, aquarium, park, science exploritorium, huge indoor children's play area complete with a train, trampolines, and go carts, Imax theater and regular cinema (all in English), climbing gym, pool, bowling alley, coffee stores, ice cream shops, huge mall (including Zara and H&M! Hooray!), and great restaurants (including 7 sushi restaurants! Hooray again!). So far I love it! It is not a town for tourists that is for sure... but has everything we need and then some. It is built for a long cold winter with plenty for us to do.

I have found an English speaking music class I will take the girls to tomorrow. Hopefully there will be some English speaking mommas there that can guide me on other things to do in town. Then we are off to Krakow on Saturday morning for a long weekend, hopefully making it to the Slovakian border for some skiing.

Maggie is having a blast and is so excited by everything. She is just thrilled to be with her daddy. Katherine is adorable crawling around the apartment getting into everything.

I will take pictures of all the grit and grim tomorrow when we are out and about. You will be impressed by all the grey!

24 hours, 2 flights, 2 trains, & 2 happy little girls

Greetings from Poland! It is blue skies & sunny today, reaching a high of -3 C. John did such a great job of managing my expectations that I think we have landed in paradise! Love our town, supermarket, the cute trolleys, nice people, great food (so far!), and an espresso machine in my apartment. What more could I ask for? Oh yes... some of the amazing outfits these women are wearing. Huge furry hats! Yes, please. Amazing boots! Yes, please. Fur lined jackets! Ok! I can't wait to go shopping.

The girls were so great during our entire trip. We are all a bit shattered, but are hanging in there. Look at my cuties on the airplane! Maggie was a dream... watched a show, ate dinner & went fast asleep for 7 hours waking just before breakfast was served. The little one on the other hand was a handful and only fell asleep just before breakfast was served. She looks like trouble in this picture! We were so happy to see John at Heathrow. I headed to the spa in the Lounge after we landed to recover from walking across the Atlantic carrying a 20 pound sack of potatoes. After a 3 hour delay and an airplane switch we made it to Warsaw.

We are so happy to be with our Valentine in Poland today! More later after we nap :)

Katherine's 9 month weight

Weighing in at 19 pounds, 3 ounces. She's growing! :)

Meeting little mousey...

A great weekend in the city. 75 degrees and sunny, fun with the girls, walking across the street from Gianna's house to the Marina Green, coffee with John's old friends, meeting little mousey Gabriella, & seeing all the hard work Gianna did on her house. Could not ask for anything more!

Love brunch in the Marina!

All of the really amazing shots are on my 'real' camera... Which will not upload to my new computer. I am stuck with phone pics for now!

The beautiful new mama & snoozing baby!

New jammies!

She wanted me to take a picture of her new jammies for daddy. "Daddy really likes butterflies."

Another beautiful day!

On a windy sunset walk with grandpa.

Does this hat look familiar Jane? She tells everyone that her friend Elizabeth sent it to her! I think it would fit Katherine better :)

PHX-MRY-FAT-MRY-SJC

Our day started with a 2 hour maintenance delay in PHX. We got another plane and headed towards MRY. After a terrifying decent into MRY it was clear we were not going to land. So... off to divert to FAT (yes, Fresno airport code is FAT). Land in FAT, refuel, and get back in the air after 2 hours sitting in the airplane with some very angry fellow passengers. Wheels down, almost to MRY... just kidding! Wheels up and off to divert to SJC. We got off at SJC and sat happily waiting for my darling dad to pick us up. Donuts, starbucks & Pizza for dinner! It was a 'thank god we were not on the airplane' celebration!

Just as we were leaving the gate area... the lady on the loudspeaker says... "Those of you on the PHX-MRY flight who would like to give it another shot landing there tonight... we are going to board in 5 min" Hahahaha! No thank you! So we never made it to Pebble Beach and are instead in Capitola. Not too bad!

Goods news is: I now have practice traveling alone with 2 little ones for over 10 hours! All set for our flight to London next week! I learned a few things: always bring more diapers, food, and clothes than you think you will need :)

Where are we going?

New joke we have heard over a hundred times since waking up this morning.

Maggie: We are going to Europe! Not to syrup!!

On to new adventures!

Bags are packed, we are ready to go tomorrow. Goodbye Arizona, hello California! Plans are to stop off in Northern California until John has us set up in Poland. After the months planning & thinking about this trip... We are so excited to get on the road! Wish me luck on the first of many solo flights with two little girls!

Katherine

Update on the cute little one...

I stepped out of the room for 1 min & Maggie decided to feed Katherine a snack. This is what I found... A whole tray full!

Little K snoozing this morning in her crib & in her car seat!

More eight month developments for little miss k: Patty cake, waving bye-bye, eating cheerios, blueberries, bananas, sweet potatoes, apples, pears, and peas. Sleeping through the night, cruising around the house with a modified crawl... Laughing, smiling, and generally being a wonderful baby.

Pleased with herself

Picture of a pleased little girl who just changed a white cake into a rainbow cake with a little magic.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Happy Birthday Daddy! We made a magical rainbow cake for Daddy for his birthday today! I made a six layer rainbow cake and then frosted it white so it looked like a plain white cake. Then we told Maggie it was a magical cake and she could turn it into a rainbow cake by sprinkling it was rainbow sprinkles and saying the magic words. The look on her face was priceless when John cut the cake and out came a rainbow.

So excited to sprinkle the magic dust.Sprinkles onLet's see what happens!MAGIC!

Even babysister had to have a little taste of the birthday cake. She was not as excited as Maggie.

Grocery store

Maggie was reading our grocery list to me while we strolled the aisles in the grocery store. Funny... Cookies were the only thing on the list.

New Year's visit with Kirsty!

We had so much fun with our friend from the UK, Kirsty. She is an amazing pilot and we met her while stationed together in the UK. I told Maggie that she was a pilot. Maggie replied, "I'm a pilot too. We have alot in common and alot to talk about." Kirsty is so busy with her new job so we were excited to get a chance to catch up with her. We miss her already!!

8 Months Old

Katherine loves daddy. She likes to giggle. She likes it when we sing this little light of mine. She likes to practise yoga with downward dog. She stares at her big sister in awe. She loves avocados, bananas, sweet potatos, green peas, blueberries, apples, pears, and cheerios. She can scoot across the room on her belly. She loves to go for walks. We take her everywhere and she just smiles. She loves her paci to sleep. She loves to lay sideways in your arms to fall asleep. She says baba, dada, baba, dada, baba and babbles all day long. She really likes mommy right now and cries when strangers first hold her. She sleeps through the night: down at 6:30pm and up at 5:30am. She is so super cute and we love her. x
