Screaming

Exercising her right to scream!

Halloween

I have learned that turning three has brought about a new independence in our little girl. Gone are the days of her sitting still and letting us play dress up with whatever clothes we want. Also gone are the days when she would stand still and smile for the camera! On halloween she changed her costume 3 different times. First she wanted to be tinkerbell, then she wanted to be a ballerina, and finally a combination of ballerina and sleeping beauty wearing her tennis shoes and refusing to have her hair brushed! She LOVED trick or treating this year. She was so excited and was practising all weekend. The first door we went to, she ran up, rang the doorbell, turned around and ran away when they answered! So funny!

An attempt to get Maggie and her new little friends to smile for a picture. Sophia, Emery, and Maggie.
Attempt #2

Our little princess skipping down the street! So excited.

Baba came to trick or treat with Maggie.

After trick or treating and after a few pieces of Halloween candy. She has decided that she wants to be a ballerina witch instead!

Playing

The girls are starting to play together! Maggie makes the baby laugh and laugh and laugh.

Our daddy snake butterfly friend

This little guy is a moth that we found eating our orange tree. He looks just like a snake! When he gets scared he puffs up and actually sticks out a red tongue. Super scary! Maggie named him "Daddy". After a week of living in a glass bowl on our counter it was time for 'daddy' to be released and head out to become a butterfly. This is what he looked like on the leaf. Early one morning about a week later, I was out for a walk and came home to find this little guy on our garage. I ran inside to tell Maggie that 'daddy' came back to see her! She was so excited!
Here she is looking at 'Daddy' butterfly and asking him where he had been. It is also a picture evidence that she is still dressing herself!

Dressing herself

Perfect hiking outfit picked out all by herself. What? You don't think that ballet gear is appropriate for the canyon?

Dinner friends

Look who joined us for dinner! Little people, her frog, swiper, and an airplane! Before we left the house she grabbed her sock puppet and filled it full if her special 'treasures'. She is so serious and sweet.

The Zoo!

Visit to the zoo today with our new friend Sophia. So much fun now that the weather is cooling off.

Feeding Denver, the giraffe.

Catching up

It has been quiet around this blog because it has been really busy at home. We were lucky to have our darlin' sweet friend Mrs. Chatwin stay with us for a few days on her visit stateside. Maggie LOVES her and loves her most favorite shirt that she gave her. Yes, it is Rolling Stones and Maggie always asks for her shirt with the mouth on it that her friend gave her. So fun to spend some time with Lindsay! Can't wait to see her next spring in Europe. What's that? We are going to Europe in the spring?! I will post more info on our trip as soon as we get more details...

5 Months Old!

Our beautiful little girl is 5 months old! Time for some food. We started a few bites of rice cereal at dinner after she was protesting at every meal and reaching towards my plate. She is growing up so fast... sleeping through the night (finally), rolling over and over and over, laughing, giggling, protesting, watching everything her sister does, blowing raspberries, and just today, starting to say "ba,ba,ba,ba". She is so cute!

Grandma's birthday card

Grandma's birthday is coming up so I gave Maggie a card to draw on and send to Grandma. I hear Maggie talking and drawing and then say... "there! Now Grandma has two cards!". She ripped it down the middle and now grandma will be the lucky recipient of 2 birthday cards!!

She did it!

At nearly 5 months old our little baby girl K slept through the night! She had been waking up every 2-3 hours lately. That means 5 months of no sleep for us. We did not know how lucky we were that Maggie slept through the night at 9 weeks. I am so happy to report that she slept from 7 pm to 5 am last night! I feel like a new person getting a large block of sleep.

The secret? Three nights of ferberizing... Night one she fell asleep within 30 min, night two she fell asleep in 23 min, and last night she barely made a peep. Wonderful!

Escape artist

I looked away for 2 min and this is what I found... Baby k rolled, scooted, shifted her way 180 degrees and off the playmat! She is on the move! Another exciting note, she only woke up once last night at 1 am! I think it was the threat of ferberization that got her to snooze longer than 3 hours at a time!

Palm Springs

The best part of John's job is the wonderful people that we meet along the way. The bad part is that we all have to move sooner or later! This past weekend we caught up with the Silvas and the Munters in Palm Springs. The drive was 7 hours across a very hot desert (113!) but worth every minute. We had so much fun meeting all of the babies and relaxing by the pool.

Big Stanley gets in on the pictures. He is the best dog I have ever met. So calm, barely knew he was there.

Sisters

Maggie loves to hold Katherine. Katherine is not so sure about the idea.

I'm thinking of an animal...

This story is for Gianna. I'm pretty sure she will find the humor! We are driving home from a great weekend in Palm Springs. Driving across the desert, 113 degrees, eating ice cream, and playing the animal game. Maggie says that she is thinking of an animal that starts with the letter B and has a big roar (she then proceeds to growl really loud). John guesses Bear! She laughs and says... No, stop joking! I then guess baboon. She laughs and says... No! We give up and she yells, 'It's a dinosaur!!'.
